Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

RU is usually the math nerd faction, but in Strixhaven it's UG. And I think it's because these color pairs think about math differently.

RU says "Math is a thing we invented."
UG says "Math is a thing we discovered."

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@storycircle Looking at the cards and writeup, it kinda looks like they're deliberately trying to invert witch color is emphasized from the corresponding Ravnican guild (which, good, if so:)

Like for example, it wouldn't be wrong to characterize the Izzet as "using Red to do Blue goals," and I think the Prismari look very deliberately to be "using Blue to do Red goals."

@ajanionthespot that makes sense. And I appreciate them increasing the diversity of philosophies within each color pair.

But I don't appreciate that this new system puts me in the WB faction. Honestly, if I went to this school I'd've become a math major based entirely on departmental culture.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@ajanionthespot I have though been thinking a lot about this kind of color balance in the context of our D&D game. Like Ariel is definitely using blue to pursue green and white goals.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@storycircle And I hope I'm not stepping on @SliverQueen 's toes if I say it looks to me like Venqwyn uses green to pursue blue goals.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@ajanionthespot @storycircle Yeah, very much so, or maybe "pursuing blue goals heavily informed by green perspectives". Really looking forward to seeing more of Quandrix.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@SliverQueen @ajanionthespot @storycircle I feel incredibly strongly seen by Quandrix in the best possible way.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@lorxus @ajanionthespot @storycircle I *definitely* thought of you.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@lorxus @ajanionthespot @storycircle No sign of fox people on this plane yet, but there are bears and elephants, so I'm not ruling it out!

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@SliverQueen @ajanionthespot @storycircle if there are fox people in Quandrix I might actually die of delight.

@SliverQueen @lorxus @storycircle

It looks like there's Owl Aven, which I guess is the obvious choice in hindsight.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@ajanionthespot @lorxus @storycircle Honestly I'd see foxes showing up in Lorehold (WR) or Prismari (UR) first?

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@SliverQueen @lorxus @storycircle

Possibly Silverquill, if they're the 'witty trickster' types?

Though if I were behind this I'd want to emphasize in the design documents that any of the planes species can show up in any of the... departments, I guess.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@ajanionthespot @lorxus @storycircle That seems to be the direction that Wizards has been going recently, but someone pointed out that Silverquill is the only of the new Commands that only pictures humans. Not clear if that means anything.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@SliverQueen @lorxus @storycircle

Except maybe this Big Forehead Aliens from This Island Earth guy? I'd believe it if someone said "this is what a strixhaven elf or vedalken looks like"

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@storycircle @SliverQueen @lorxus

The first time has to happen eventually, right?

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@ajanionthespot @storycircle @SliverQueen We've had nonblue merfolk and nonblack vampires and nonred dragons and nongreen hydras, so why not?

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@ajanionthespot @SliverQueen @lorxus I do still think tho that I need reassurance about what this WB faction is going to be like
It feels like "we've taken this thing that you identify with and assigned it to an identity you want to avoid"

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@storycircle @SliverQueen @lorxus Very fair. Since at this point we're speculating based on a single card and lore blurb per college, so I think patience in entirely warranted.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@storycircle Honestly, the WB faction looks like "sarcastic lit majors who desperately need therapy," and that's was a witheringly accurate fit for me in college.

Thoughts about a Strixhaven faction

@storycircle I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT SO MUCH
