Last Time: Our heroes arrived at Tamiyo's mansion on Kamigawa, only discover that they already knew a member of her family--her son Nashi--but that they'd heard of his teacher--Ajani Goldmane.

Tamiyo asked for an account of how Nashi knows Venqwyn, and he, somewhat bashfully admitted he met her on Zendikar, and then again on Ravnica. The party got the impression that he was maybe not supposed to be going places on his just yet.

But this led into a general account of the adventures on Onumbrica. Which Tarjuk suddenly interrupted.

He was trying to hold back and wait, and ended up eating two chopsticks in the process, and now he's out of chopsticks and can't wait any longer. He blurts out all his questions about Tarkir at once. "I left and when I came back everyone was gone and there were dragons and there weren't drgaons before and I don't know if it's safe to go back, and-"

Tamiyo does her best to explain. “I’m sorry. Time magic is not my field of expertise, and there is much I don’t understand. But I am familiar with Tarkir.” She explains the bifurcated timeline, the Spirit Dragon’s Nexus, Sarkhan Vol. “Imagine that time is a story being told. There are many places where it could have gone one way, or another. The past you knew, that was one version of the story, but you went through a wound in time and have emerged in a different version of the story.”

Ariel and Tebasha continue the story of Onumbrica, specifically the account of the Cyclone being caused by two planes colliding. “I can think of two incidents that have been.” Tamiyo is pensive. “Both about the time of the Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria.” Which gives Tebasha a startle.

Tamiyo goes on about Oldwalkers, the Mending, and how in the past interplanar travel was more possible even for non-Walkers.

“And the Phyrexians of that era created an artificial plane to use as a staging ground. They simply lined up their armies, merged the plane with Dominaria, and then all their legions were ready to fight. I could see the wake turbulence of such an event being large enough to affect other planes.”

Tebasha is disturbed. She had not expected to discover ways for Phyrexians to be WORSE.

Tamiyo and Ariel head to the library for further discussion.

Meanwhile, Ajani proposes friendly duels, citing Nashi’s need to practice against someone other than himself. “Especially if he is going to be going to other planes unsupervised.”

Nashi and Taoshan begin a friendly duel. Nashi summons ghosts of rats, spirits that can't be blocked, flicker effects. Taoshan tries to take control of his creatures and mill him out, but seems to be hampered by some internal struggle.

Ajani stops the fight before anything gets serious.

In the library, Tamiyo explains the other event that could have caused the Cyclone: an artificial plane called Serra’s Realm being collapsed. “This is only a theory, but I suspect this was the more likely cause. But I’ll know more once I’ve examined this plane of Onumbrica myself.”

She invites Ariel to use any of the library’s resources, and says that any accounts will be very valuable to the collection.

"Oh, and of course," Tamiyo finishes as she stands to make preparations for an expedition. "You're all welcome to the Formal Gathering of the Story Circle." This is coming in a few days, Narset often attends, and there may be a chance to speak to her there. "Have you all any formal dress that needs laundering? Or would your band prefer to borrow something? If so, Rumiko should be able to help you."
